Frequently Asked Questions
-
A consultation is a free 15-minute phone or video call to help us determine whether working together feels like a good fit.
During the call, I’ll ask a few questions to understand what you’re hoping to get out of therapy. We’ll talk briefly about current concerns, scheduling, and insurance. I’ll also share more about my approach and how I might be able to support your goals.
You’re welcome to ask questions as well. The goal is simply to connect, gather information, and decide on next steps without any pressure or commitment.
-
Yes. Parents and caregivers are welcome to reach out on behalf of teens under 18 to ask questions and schedule an initial consultation.
Young adults age 18 and older must reach out directly to begin therapy. If a parent remains involved in insurance or billing, the client can sign a release allowing me to communicate with parents about those logistical matters.
-
Yes. I work with teens and young adults while also recognizing the important role parents may play.
After the initial consultation, therapy sessions are held privately with the teen. I keep communication open with parents around scheduling, general progress themes, and any concerns that may arise, while maintaining appropriate confidentiality.
For clients age 18 and older, I’m happy to communicate with parents about insurance, billing, or other agreed-upon matters with a signed release.

The first session is mostly a conversation. I’ll ask questions to get to know you, understand what’s been coming up recently—school, stress, relationships, mood—and clarify what you’d like to get out of therapy. There’s no pressure to have everything figured out; I’ll help guide the conversation.
In ongoing sessions, we’ll check in about what’s been coming up since we last met, notice patterns in thoughts and emotions, and practice coping strategies you can use outside of therapy.
Sessions are steady, conversational, and collaborative. Most clients say the process helps them feel clearer, more grounded, and more capable in daily life.
-
Most clients start with weekly sessions to build momentum, and then shift to every other week as things feel more manageable. We’ll decide together what fits your schedule and goals.
-
It varies. Some people feel better after a few months; others prefer longer-term support during major transitions like starting college, graduating, or settling into a new job. We will check in regularly to make sure therapy continues to feel useful.
-
Sometimes. If a small practice or strategy could genuinely support you during the week, we’ll talk about it. Nothing overwhelming—just simple tools that make life feel more manageable.
-
I ask for at least 24 hours notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Sessions canceled with less than 24 hours notice may be subject to a fee.
-
Yes, as long as you are physically in Massachusetts or Maine at the time of the session.
